Who Are We in Louisiana?
We have seven operating facilities in Louisiana including our area sales office, below is a summary of what each facility produces:
Louisiana Area Sales:
The Sales Office is primarily responsible for industrial gas sales and contracts; both merchant and pipeline supply. The office is also responsible for the asset and financial management of the area’s industrial gas facilities (hydrogen, syngas, and atmospheres). In addition, it supports the 90 mile pipeline that resides in Louisiana, with 12 customers and 7 plants, as well as interface with all of the customers in the area.
Geismar 2 Facility:
The Geismar 2 facility is an integrated chemical and gases complex, the first of its kind in Air Products.
The chemical plant was started up in December 1998. This facility produces Dinitrotoluene (DNT), which is used by customers for conversion to Toluenediamine (TDA) and ultimately Toluendiisocyanate (TDI) for end use in producing foams and coatings. The majority of the DNT generated at Geismar 2 is sent to customers via pipeline with a small quantity being shipped to other customers in trucks.
The gas plant was started up in December 1999. The two primary products in this plant are gaseous hydrogen and gaseous carbon monoxide. Both products have a wide variety of commercial uses. Hydrogen, a colorless, odorless, tasteless, flammable gas is widely used in petroleum refining processes. It is a raw material for many chemical processes ranging from the manufacturing of plastics to food-grade oils. Hydrogen is also used in the metals process an electronics industries. Carbon monoxide is ultimately used in the production of TDI.
The Air Products and Chemical Geismar Syngas facility supplies Shell Chemical – Geismar with 650# steam and Syngas 1:1, 2:1.
Geismar Satellite I:
The Air Products and Chemicals, Geismar, Louisiana Satellite 1 facility is an offgas H2 (Hydrogen) purification plant located next to Williams.
Geismar Satellite II:
The Air Products and Chemicals Geismar Louisiana facility is an offgas H2 (Hydrogen) purification plant located in Geismar next to Cosmar.
St. Gabriel Facility:
The St. Gabriel plant is an Air Products and Chemicals grassroots facility. It was started up in 1976 to supply higher amines to neighboring plants via pipeline.
There are approximately 70 employees at St. Gabriel with about 12 full time contractors.
We were certified to ISO 9002 standards in December 1993. We maintain that certification today and exist to serve our customers!
The Air Products Convent facility is adjacent to the Motiva Refinery on Highway 70. We have been successful in supplying gaseous oxygen and nitrogen to Motiva for the past 16 years. This site is one of three facilities worldwide that compresses oxygen to meet customer demands. Our facility consists of:
- Two air separation units
- A liquid nitrogen or liquid air unit
- An argon purifier
- Associated nitrogen and oxygen compression equipment
- An extensive pipeline back up system
Liquid oxygen, nitrogen and pure argon are also manufactured here and shipped throughout the gulf coast region as far as Miami, Florida. Logistic Express, Logex, is contracted and housed on site to deliver the liquid bulk products to our customers. We have developed a close working relationship with Logex, based on the fact that they are APCI representatives to our liquid customers.
New Orleans Facility:
Our New Orleans facility employs about 150 employees and contractors. They also supply Hydrogen to NASA to fuel the space shuttle.
The pride our employees take to help others in our communities is seen on a daily basis. Some examples of community activities are:
